So here is the ending to the sad story....I had the piece repaired! Still a shame it was broken in the first place but at least I can display it and I know it was a quality repair! Still not sure how he put it together when I send him a baggie full of small glass pieces along with the large pieces.

Not quite sure of the color...has a grayish hue to it. Bill Steele said in bottles it's called a Prussian Blue.
