The "bow-and-arrow" nickname was for this style of heavy-duty steel brackets used for single-circuit, three phase electric lines. Some still are in service here in the USA. However (very unfortunately) this type of good-looking construction has been pretty much obsolete for the last few decades.

What looks like a telephone openwire route employing a couple wooden sidepin brackets is seen along the right.
