Here we have three different versions a handbook detailing the Specifications for Pole Line Construction. Perhaps like many collectors you have accumulated a surplus of common insulators and are wondering what to do with them. Suddenly, it comes to you and you excitedly run up to your spouse or significant other or family member or friends and you breathlessly yell while waving your arms, "I'm going to build my own pole line!" They smile indulgently and nod and edge away from you while using their smart phone to contact the nearest mental health treatment provider. After a few minutes, you realize that you don't know the first thing about how to build a pole line and where can you acquire such information? Well, here you go! At the top is the Western Union Telegraph Specifications for Pole Line Construction dated March 1, 1939. I would estimate that it has ~200 pages covering strength of lines, clearances, location and grading, framing, setting and handling of poles, guying, wire construction, aerial cable construction, terminal construction, and more. The book measures 4 5/16" by 7" and has some cover wear, stains, and folds to pages but is still solid and very usable. At the lower right is the Association of American Railroads Specification for the Construction of Railroad Communication Pole Lines adopted in 1924 and revised in 1939, 1943, and 1950. It has 291 pages and the content is similar to the Western Union manual. These books were designed to be used in the field and there is just about everything a line crew would need to know here. The cover is in good shape and the pages have some wear and stains, but again very usable. Finally at lower left is a later edition of this same AAR publication. It has 289 pages and some are marked with the year 1958, 1962, or 1963. It has a card stock cover and shows little wear other then minor water staining on some of the pages. Take all three for $40 which includes Priority Mail shipping. I'm sorry but I can only accept PayPal for this sale.
