Photo c.1915. Nice image of tightly strung wires upon "Alley-arm" construction through this New Hampshire village. The purpose of such extended crossarms was so that the circuits they carried would be at a safe clearance from tree branches and other foliage to reduce the chance of electrical interference. In addition such construction was (and still is) utilized for stringing electrical wires away from adjacent buildings for safety.
