After around 1910 New England Telephone and a lot of the independent phone companies operating in Maine and other northeastern US communities started to use ten-pin crossarms where multiple (usually six or more) wires were strung for existing and future capacity. "Simpler" lines employing two or four wires continued to be commonplace construction for decades.
