Yesterday I went out on another hunt. Only my third or forth this season being the wife has been keeping me busy with construction on our house. On this adventure I stoped somewhere in the Schoharie Valley where some on has a yard sale each and weekend day providing the weather is nice. Anyhow, only once before when I visited this yard sale did I walk away with any glass. Yesterday was the second. They had a dozen or more insulator in a milk crate with pigeon crap and dirt all over them. Picked though anyway being one never knows. They all ended up being commons. That was outside the garage I believe was built just for these yard sales. So not giving up I figured I may as well go in abd check. Right away I spotted another box of insulators that were all cleaned up. They to ended up being some common WT 154's and a couple porcelians. Feeling disappointed I commenced to search some more. That search was short being there was a china cabinet or some other type of furnature right to the left of where I had been standing looking into the yieldless ! box. Immediately my eyes were drawned to one of the insulators on the shelf of four or five. All but the one that captured my attention were also commons. The 252 Gaynor was not so I paid the asking price and got back on my motorcycle with a smile. The seller claimed it was the oldest insulator he had so he had to stick to his price. Told him it wasn't but was less common then other insulator he had. Didn't realize it was even less common then I thought until I was home and looked up in PG. All I knew at the time was I hadn't ever found or seen one. Only that is was a Gayner and most collectors don't have to much desire to have insulators with that name embossed. Anyway, this one has amber in mid-section, ears and a piece of junk just left of the embossing. Although it has a few damaged drips (most on rear side) it displays very well and much prettier then my pic. Enjoy anyway!! |
