The latter were among the types of gooseneck street lights were used across the US from around 1900 and in still in service until the late 1960s. These had incandescent lightbulbs within them and most operated within street series circuits.

Also note the double bracing beneath each of these alley arms. They probably were intended for fortified crossarm strength when ice build-up and fallen foliage occured along the stretches of this community's electric lighting service openwire.
