FRONT VIEW Recently made some trades with a gentlemen who collected insulators years ago while working as a lineman in Kansas. One piece of glass I picked up was this CD 291 Hemingray. It has the EIN [030] embossing on it. That is the High Voltage No. 3 version. Is this version rare? I talked with other power glass collectors who had these and they did not have the number 3 version. The fellow I traded with was not sure where he got it or if he originally traded for it way back when. If anybody has more info on this style with this embossing please get in touch. The piece is in pretty decent condition with the front is pretty much mint except for one tiny ding, the rear is clean except for a one inch long no glass missing bruise under "Petticoat". Only one broken drip point on the whole thing. The wire groove is another matter. When the plunger went in to make the threads it went nearly all the way through the insulator leaving only a very thin layer for the bottom of the WG. This I speculate took a lightning hit or some other type of surge and popped a hole in the bottom of the WG. There is also some light flaking at and just below the WG on one end. Sounds serious I guess but isn't a big deal to me as I am very happy to add this piece to my collection. |
