I found an old cart road in the woods and there was copper wire lying along the ground in places. I'm assuming the wire was used on a telegraph or telephone line. Any ideas how this tie was used?

Some browsing through this folder and I see its a common dead end tie except for it being very large. Must have gone on a porcelain multi but I don't know what a big porcelain would be doing where I found it. And the wire is fairly thin.
