Telephone openwire circuits likely for local subscribers also extended along the left. An early cast iron electric step-down transformer is seen on the pole on the right. When this photo was taken, stepping down either 2,200 or 1,100 volts primary to 110 volts for customers was common practice in residential neighborhoods like this across the US.
