Up for sale is a pretty nifty and very unique Brookfield CD 102. This piece is a [030] BROOKFIELD CD 102 with sharp drips, and an "X2" embossed on the dome top. This one came out of a fairly well-renowned S.W. Ontario insulator collection dating back some 40 years. What's rather unusual about it is the presence of a very tasteful combination of subtly dispersed milk and amber swirls, lending a greenish tinge and a jade-like translucency to the glass - none-too-commonly seen in Brookfield products. I have had two slightly jade-like Brookfield CD 102s similar to this one in the past, but never one with a decidedly greenish tinge like this one, and never one with quite this pronounced an amount of milk and amber. While not as jade-like as some H.G.Co. products, this one is obviously more translucent than the average Brookfield, and when underlit the piece presents a dazzling display of fine milk swirls all throughout the dome and skirt. While I would hesitate to think that this one is strong enough in its milk content to be considered true "jade green" as the price guide lists, I do think it's a very unusual piece that would lend itself very well to a lineup of Brookfield insulators or ponies. There is also a fair amount of potstone throughout the glass in this one, giving it a bit of a snowglobe appearance as well. One particularly strong milk swirl in the front skirt stands out as a milky, almost opalescent white colouration when displayed in natural light. I had a hard time catching this in the photos, but it is unusual. The condition on this piece isn't too bad for one of these. Brookfield CD 102s are renowned for having exquisitely horrible damage to their drip points. This one has an average amount of drip chipping, with 9 partially chipped drips, all on the left side. The left side of the piece, just in front of the mould line, also has a shallow fan crack from an impact along the base edge mould line. All told, this fan crack is about 7/8" long, but is very shallow towards its right side and is almost invisible when the piece is displayed from the front - a from-below view being required to really see it. See the from-below photo. There is also some shallow annealing fracturing in the front dome, as can be seen in the photos. This is likely from manufacture, as the milk swirls throughout the glass likely introduced some weakness to the piece. In any case, it's hardly a distraction from the milk and is likely from manufacture. I'm asking $135.00 US plus shipping for this swirly Brookfield pony. I accept PayPal, or personal cheque from any member of ICON or any collector with whom I have dealt before. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or for more photos, and look through my other items or unsold sales stock to combine shipping on items. All the best! |
