The telegraph wires that went through this Maine town pararelled former Boston & Maine RR tracks and connected Boston with Portland (about 30 miles north). This is a very old line and probably had threadless insulators along it at one time. Now it a heavily travelled commuter line between the forementioned two cities and is a freight route as well. An old wooden junction box for telegraph station terminals is on the left with either a phone or electric six-pin line going over the crossing. |
