This was (and is) a major East-West RR route between Boston and Albany, NY...and westwards. On the left likely are long distance AT&T phone circuits (with 10-pin arms) with a six-pin crosarmed pole having a wooden telegraph connection box (on the far right) connecting to the station's telegrapher. The AT&T line did not follow too much of the B&M right-of-way. Weston, MA is about ten miles west of Boston. The latter telegraph line was totally rebuilt at some time during the early teens, replacing decaying poles and the iron wire with hard-drawn copper. This line utilized double-petticoat telegraph insulators (typically CD 145 Brookfield's and CD 152 Hemingrays as upgrades) mounted on new ten-pin crossarms. This line remained fairly intact ableit with lots of newer poles until it was dismantled around 1990. |
