An insulator that just doesn't come around very often is the CD 133 Brookfield (CREB) signal in purple. There is a very limited number of these in collections today, perhaps about 18 - 20. Few are darker than this one and many are a much paler SCA. Several were found south of the border in Mexico in the past 20 years and a grouping was found in Maine in the 70's. Two were also recently found in Pennsylvania. This same CD made by Hemingray with an 1871 patent date seems to get more attention, and I've always wondered why? This one is in excellent condition. This one is embossed on the front crown "0/W. BROOKFIELD/45 CLIFF St./N.Y." On the reverse, though very faint, is "PAT/JAN. 25TH 1870." I want to emphasize, the rear embossing is very faint, but it is there. The mold letter is a sideways "0." On the front left (insulator's own right) is a 5/8" long scratch (probably caused by the tie wire) with what looks like a small ping in the middle, but could just be part of the scratch (see photo, left side). Also just below and to the right of the scratch is something white on the surface of the glass on the wire ridge, at first looks like a small birdseye ping, but I believe it may just be a contaminant in the glass. Otherwise I see only five or so very light minor fleabites, and I mean fleabites, mostly on the top of the rear dome. Ther are two open base bubbles; the one on the front measures about 1/2 " on the right front (insulator's own left) and a much smaller one on the rear. In the larger bubble, the debris in the glass that likely caused the bubble remains exposed. Kind of cool. If all this sounds like a lot, I mention it just for accuracy, This is an old insulator in superb condition, that anyone but a mint freak would be proud to add to his or her top shelf. To add character, there are quite a few bubbles floating in the glass both front and rear as well. And what a beautiful, unusual color for this design. I'm asking $1,100 and that includes shipping and insurance. You'd be hard pressed to ever find another example in this condition at this price again in the future. When opportunity knocks, the wise man answers the door. Will you? First email snags this. I've included two additional photos showing the reverse side and the base. Enjoy!
