Ice-clad poles with high voltage cables beyond design strength resulted in many collapses like this one, especially in New York State and nearby Canada resulting in widespread outages.

Thanks to dedicated National Grid, neighboring utility and contract utility line crews, vital lines such as these were restored in a timely fashion despite the cold, ice, darkness and difficulty in getting utility vehicles from one location to another during this unforgiveable weather event that took place in mid-later December 2013.
