Photo taken c.1930. The utility serving this community (about 15 miles SE of Boston, MA) was the former Weymouth Light and Power Company until becoming the Massachusetts Electric Company about 1960. The latter acquired rights to using the "Reddy Kilowatt" logo, like other companies within the New England Electric System corporate umbrella. This street scene with the buildings in the background remains somewhat unchanged except that the rotary is no longer there and the utility lines have been upgraded to 1990s standards. GE Form 109 mercury vapor street lighting fixtures were installed around 1954 utilizing more energy-efficient A-H1 lamps replacing the old incandescent pole-mounted lanterns seen here. |
