Oddly the vast majority of the train wreck photos of yesteryears (like this one) that I have seen show the pararelling telegraph pole lines unscathed. No matter how bad the incident was, the telegraph poles and wires seemed to remain intact.

That is great since information regarding such unfortunate incidents got transmitted quickly, saving property and lives.
