A gooseneck incandescent street lamp illuminated this nice stretch of road in this historic coastal Massachusetts community. The electric utility was the Hingham Municipal Lighting Plant (formed in 1894) which proudly serves this community to this day. Glass insulators glimmering in the sunlight surely look nice with the old homes in the background. This stretch of road looks pretty much the same today with the same houses still pretty much like you see. This is within the town's historical district. All the magestic, tall elms are long gone along with the early electric lighting poles; the latter modernized through the decades. |
