This line is visible on the far left and adds to the nice scenery of this Vermont rural road... It is known that Verizon still maintains (typically at customer expense) open wire subscriber line(s) to remote areas in northern New England whereby cellular service is unreliable and/or the customer or Verizon does not want to pay the cost "upgrading". Some of these installations are grandfathered at the benefit to customers implemented many years ago and stay in place according to a retired Verizon/New England Telephone employee. Replacement glass insulators are still in stock with plastic-cob steel pins for short crossarms; the insulators purportedly mostly are 60s Armstrong's and 70s Kerrs. |
