Went to a local estate tag sale today that advertised a "vintage insulator collection". I called them up a few days ago and asked for some more details. They said they think the guy worked for a local utility company (KU) and there were some insulators they had never seen, but mostly porcelain. So, figured it was worth the short trip this afternoon and a good excuse to leave work early. Showed up 15 min before they opened the doors and at start time went straight in to find the insulators. At first glance didn't see anything that jumped out, but as I got over to them i grabbed these two and quickly put them in my box as the price was great! The rest were common. I went over to pay for them and told the lady I was going to give them more than their sticker price. She looked confused and asked why. "Well, because they are worth more than you're asking, and if the money goes to the family, I'll pay a little more". Anyways, long story, but I had a fun afternoon. The EIN [020] is in excellent condition, but the EIN [010] has about half of the dome missing, but looks good displayed. I'm assuming since the guy worked for a electric company, that he probably got these here in KY. Can anyone educate me on if the KCGW 151's were used in any particular geographic area, and is it "normal" to expect to find them in KY? Thanks - Chris |
