Local electric lighting service was provided to customers via the lines you see here. The transformer on the pole in the foreground converted either 1,100 or 2,200 volts to about 110 volts for subscribers. An old incandescent street light mounted on a gooseneck bracket illuminated this village's centre. This pastoral, silent and totally tranquil Maine scene certainly must have looked totally priceless lit up after snowfall at night time ;-) Also note the gas pumps and the Ford sign on the barn on the right.... |
