Also note the paired cable strung along this pole line. Most likely it was lead-sheathed cable, with small, twisted, insulated copper pairs protected within. The latter was quickly becoming an alternative to open-wire construction around the teens owing to its physical strength and improved protection from the elements, especially when installed where tree foliage density was a concern, as in this photo.
