These 4kv distribution circuits with fire alarm openwire beneath existed until Massachusetts Electric converted to 13.8 kv during the early 1980s. The classic GE Form 109 mercury vapor street lights also seen here were so-called upgraded around that time as well as the former open-wire fire alarm circuits. The latter in this community supported some colorful and rare CD 134 Diamond-P insulators, now in collectors' hands. For the record...from where the photographer took this image: to the left and two pole-spaces back on the left... was a corner pole. It had an aqua CD 134 Diamond-P upon it and it was rescued just before the town converted its system to modern enclosed-type cable. |
