These were among the latest style of incandescent street lights a century ago. This fixture is known as having a "radial wave" reflector...aka a "piecrust" or "ruffled-shade" light fixture to enthusiasts/collectors. Span wire or "suspension" light fixture scenes like this one were commonplace throughout the United States thanks to more energy-efficient and longer-lasting tungsten-filament technology introduced about 1912. These much more economical light sources (as well as their fixtures) replaced many arc lights in subsequent years. |
