How to take Pictures of details on insulators

Since glass reflects light - use the following method to cut glare and get good pics of details/erros/blotted embossing/etc.

You will be amazed at what might pop out at you!

Before using this method, it was unknown that most 83 FULTON ST CREB145s actually have a 45 CLIFF ST hiding under the Fulton embossing. When painted flat black, the lack of glare on the glass allows many details to be seen.

Sunlight likely will give a great pic, but I have used simple table lamps as the light source.

Cleanup is simple. I use acetone and a cotton ball. Sometimes a Q-tip might be needed to get into the inside loops of certain letters IF the paint is allowed to sit for days/weeks on end.
