Central Maine Power had quite a few Lapp three-tier pintype insulators along this road (US Route 1) in a nice mahogany/mustard color along their 4kv primary (topmost) wires, installed in the 1930s. Likely some appear in this photo. This route was really close to the seashore so it it is likely these pintype "foggers" were something the utility really wanted to install for insulating their higher voltage routes. All of the "fogger" pintypes I have seen in southern Maine were the "bottom-rest" type. I do not have their U-number right at hand.... Very few if any of these insulators remain owing conversions to 13.2 or 13.8 kv commencing in the 1990s. The "gumball" incandescent street lights seen here were replaced by mercury vapor fixtures. The ornate brackets were not re-used and were replaced by modern looking ones. |
