A bag of old coins ? ! ? I was up in the rafters of a long abandoned 1899-1900 era transformer house near an old abandoned mine in the middle of nowhere in central Utah... I found some very unusual wood insulator mounting brackets and decided to climb up into the rafters of the place and recover the brackets . Wile up there I noticed a very dusty and bird dodo covered leather bag with an old key attached tucked away on top of one of the beams . I took it down with me along with the aforementioned recovered pins and brackets and emptied the bag on to the floor and to my amazement it was full of old American coins including a nearly new looking silver dollar from 1921, Indian head pennies, buffalo nickels, late 1890's "V" nickles, a silver dime and quarter as well the newest coin was a shiny new looking 1958 penny. I have no idea how long the bag had been there or who put it there but it was about the strangest thing I have ever found in an old abandoned building of this nature it was stashed in a place that would have been near bare 16kV primary voltage lines if the station was still in service when the bag of coins was stashed there.... ??? It is amazing how attractive and artistic American coins use to be...somehow we have lost something as a culture.. no wonder people collect them! |
