Not for much longer I don't think...

This 69kV line has long since been superseded by a 115kV line that parallels it to the north. The distribution circuit down below is what remains of the original 23.9kV transmission circuit that NSP erected in the 1920s and still functions at that voltage to serve rural customers along the line (one of two 23.9kV/7200V subs along this line can be seen in the back). Xcel's SD system was rocked by an ice storm last week and they called in their own crews from ND, MN, and WI; contractors from MN, WI, and MI; utilities from MO, NE, and MN also responded to calls for assistance - so you can see it was a pretty significant event. Anyhow, I don't think this 69kV line is going to last that much longer in its present form. There were a number of poles with posts that broke off the end of the crossarms and at least a few of the massive Sim M-3620 clamp top multis actually managed to free themselves from the pin!
