Was told by the original owner that his great geat grandfather made this at Whitney Glass Works. I cannot guarantee that story, but felt that it was true. But I do know that glass whimsey turtles were a favorite of some south jersey glass gaffers from Gayner and other glass houses. It is a large turtle measuring 7 " long by 4 1/2 " wide and 2 1/2 tall. A lot of glass. This was used as a doorstop. Has significant base wear to high points, and has scratch wear to the shell, all of the legs have damage to them, one rear is even broke off, one rear has a crack and the front are chipped, tail is chipped, Head is undamaged. This is an authentic doorstop South Jersey turtle Whimsey probably dating from the 1880's to 1920's. WAS $100 . Now Drastically reduced to $30 plus shipping |
