This is a panoramic constructed from three pictures of the winter feedlot at the Meyring Ranch, near Walden, CO. The Meyrings ranch their cattle on around 6,000 acres of both their privately-owned land, as well as land leased from the Forest Service. Linda and I arrived here the day after these pictures were taken in Utah [id=268000055], and parked our camper at the ranch for several days while visiting a friend who was in between database design and administration jobs, and was filling his time by being a cowboy. Winter was imminent - these photos were taken on November 12, 2009 - and you can see it in the sky. Like most rural folks, the Meyrings collect stuff that might be useful "someday". Their boneyard includes four-wire crossarms and line hardware and insulators from some open wire phone line that was scrapped out. They recycled insulators and crossarms to build this power system. Too bad they didn't also get some poles that were in good shape! Look at the makeshift pole on the right. Also, note the middle pole, where they ran the conductors through the middle of some ceramic spools! "View Original" helps. |
