Up for sale is a pair of scarce, numbered pinhole Dominion insulators. Only during a very narrow window of production did Dominion decide for some reason to mark the very tops of some of their threading mandrels, leaving behind backwards embossed numbers in the tops of the pinholes of insulators made during this stretch. I have heard something about the shipment of insulator-producing presses and moulds to Dominion's Red Deer, Alberta plant around this time, but I don't know for sure the full story here. Regardless, while numbered pinhole Dominion CD 155s are quite common, essentially every other style remains quite elusive, at least from my experience. The Dominion CD 164 on the left is the [060] embossing, and originated from use here in London. It has the number "35" embossed in the pinhole. There is no date code on this piece, just the mould number "10" beside the Diamond D on the rear skirt. The CD 108 was excavated from the telephone insulator dump we found in 2011, and is one of 3 good condition numbered pieces that came from that dump. All three had original tie wires still attached. This one has the number "26" in the pinhole (though the photo doesn't show it too well due to some folds in the glass reflecting light oddly), and the date code for 1947 beside the Diamond D. Most of the numbered pinhole Dominion pieces I've seen have been dated 1947, if they are dated at all. The condition of both pieces is pretty good. The CD 164 has a fleabite above the Diamond D in the rear, and a very shallow, 1/8" by 1/4" very flat flake on the front base edge that does not affect any drips and is hardly noticeable. The CD 108 has a small area of roughness about 1/4" wide on the front outer base edge, and two 1/8" pins on the rear dome. Considering it came from a telephone dump where it no doubt fell from a cart onto and amongst hundreds of other insulators, it's amazing that it's in such good shape! I'm asking $12.00 U.S. plus shipping for this scarce pair of late-production Dominion items. Very scarcely encountered, this may be your only chance to pick up these pieces! I accept PayPal, or personal cheque from any member of ICON or any collector with whom I have dealt before. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or for more photos, and look through my other items or unsold sales stock to combine shipping on items. All the best! |
