This line was owned by Western Union and the main route extended straight from Boston to Middleboro, MA. A few generations of telegraph pole lines existed along this route and this is one of them. Soon after this photo was taken a second 6-pin crossarm was added to this line. In the teens everything was replaced by cedar poles, hard-drawn copper wire and 10-pin crossarms. All of this stood in place until the late 1960s. Now the RR route is MBTA commuter rail. |
