Here's a scarcely seen or offered two piece battery rest insulator from England. Measures 3 1/4" wide by 1 1/8" tall. Found in an old British trash dump with other objects dating from the late 1800s. There is a small glass pontil on the center base of each piece which demonstrates this was hand made by blowing glass into a mold. The battery rest insulated the legs of large battery storage containers. Battery storage systems were used to provide DC power for the early telegraph circuits and railroad signals.

Based on research of British manufacturers, I believe this was made by Kilner Brothers in the Thornhill Lees factory (circa 1898-1910).

VNM shape with only a small chip on the lid and minor use marks. Bottom battery rest has neat piece of fire brick inside. Color is Light Green aqua for the base and (unlisted) Aqua in the lid. For individual photos of the top and bottom [id=184990693] and [id=184986883]. First email gets the complete 2 piece set of rarely seen British battery rests. Thanks
