As stated within the previously posted image, Boston Edison was the electric supplier in this city and glass insulators (double petticoat, deep groove styles...notably CD 164, 165.1 and 167) were (and still are) the rule for their 4kv and lower voltage pintype construction. Here we also see an ornate "double bend" radial-wave series street light on the pole in the foreground. A heavy and thickly insulated cable led down the pole for the luminaire. The insulators that were mounted into the pole for its operation were the lag type and generally had brown or mahogany glaze. A few two-piece gray ones have been located. Most of these pole-mounted insulators were removed during pole changeovers and street light fixture upgrades.

NStar (the present utility) re-uses glass insulators a lot of time. In addition there are quite a few old poles like the one seen here within Boston's suburbs that NStar services.
