Chicago, 1908, Early Steel Trolley Line Poles

These heavy-duty poles and cables (on the right) were photographed along Wentworth Avenue south of 73rd. Physically stocky and thick copper trolley cables were traditionally necessary since they carried direct current; typically at 600 volts for trolley and street car service here in the USA.

Likely local electric service was provided along the "more lighter-construction" pole lines along on the left.
