A not too distance reminder of an insulator's service era gone!......

A end to my Driveway Display from a very windy day Thursday. Well the wind was gusty pretty much to whole day, excess of 50 mph and continuously. The front trees made the secondary wires hit and twist, sounds like fire crackers going off each time they hit. Later to short out the nearby transformer. Loaded with psb's oil. Fire along the wires and sounded like a bomb went off. Oil spraying every where. I was standing right in my driveway went it went off. I knew it would blow sooner or later with the wires on fire. The heavy smoke and fumes from the wires and oil burning.

The Com Ed tree contractors butchered my trees and Com ed took down the transformer and those beloved amber spools. The awesome lightning arrestor is gone and the squirrel guards too. This is a photo Thursday after the power blew, note the fuse cutout tripped on the right side of the crossarm and the oil all over the transformer. The hasmat crew said about 1 1/2 gallons of oil blew out the top seams around the transformer. The transformer had psb greater than 50 ppb which is excessive from their test kits. The crew had to lower the transformer into a bag and the oil pumped out of it into a drum and then the transformer was shipped out to the recycler. The surrounding ground was stripped and will be laid down with fresh dirt and grass later .

Which to this day they still haven't landscaped the pole area or planted grass seed. 4/2022
