Well, I guess ICON has determined that these were made clear and turned Sun-Colored Amethyst (SCA) due to the Manganese in the glass and prolonged exposure to the ultra-violet rays of the sun. Whatever the case, since I will probably never own my favorite insulator (CD 130.1 in cobalt) I'll have to say that the CD 154 Whitall Tatum in SCA is the prettiest insulator ever made (Not to mention it's affordable!). Perhaps this insulator also has the distinct honor of being the one that gets most new collectors into the hobby! Enjoy! I remember back in 1973 seeing one of these in the window of a roadside shop near the Columbia River, WA for $10.. That was a lot of money at the time so needless to say my parents wouldn't buy it for me. I was really bummed out but tried not to show it too much for fear of making my dad mad. LOL |
