Why a lot of our insulators are not in mint condition

Erie, PA...Historic flooding and a heavy ice-storm during 1915 which tore down plenty of utility poles like this one, violently crashing hard upon the ground.

Back in those days a lot of stuff was recycled and line hardware and insulators were no exception.

So, if you have a chipped or damaged insulator in your collection, just wonder what kind of elusive history represents its use (and abuse).

If these things could only speak and tell their stories ;-)

Most of us will never know what caused those dings, chips, bruises and other in-service battle-scars upon what we collect.

I would rather have an insulator with at some signs of (at least) light usage rather than one that never saw active duty.

But, that's just me.

Joe
