This is one of my favorite railroad photographs. It seems to have a lot of ineresting things it in. In the background, the large factory building is one of Greenville, SC's cotton mills with the chimney to the right. Most likely this is Woodside Mill or Bandon Mill judging on the size. Just below the electric engine is a substation for either the cotton mill or Piedmont & Northern Electric Railway. I see some large multiparts from a 44kV Duke (or Southern depending on the date) powerline. Above the track is the feeder lines with a large bowl-like insulator on them which is similar to a tolley clamp insulator. The other thing I like in this photo is the street light on the pole to the left. This photo is in the Daspit Collection and is from carolinarails.org. |
