This is one of the classic threadless from the Civil War Period. Dug at the Richmond, Va. army depot which was set ablaze by the Confedrates to keep the materials from falling into Union hands. The results of the fire are exhibited as the piece is somewhat distorted on one side. It does lean but stand freely on its own. NOte some small blots of red inclusions, possibly from slag glass used in making the piece? The heat caused an unusual spalling at the surface which authenticates the fire it survived. From my collection of threadless. $400 shipped within the Continental US. PayPal or personal check. Other locations, inquire for shipping terms.
