This shows the floor plan, and a brief technical description of the Tucapau Berry Shoals Power House, as it was in 1904, with one generator and turbine setup in place, and the location for the planned future installation of a second generator and turbine. The water entered the turbines through the large diameter pipe in the center, and exited through the two turbines through the smaller diameter pipes, which sloped downhill, into the Tyger River. The turbines' rotation was transferred to the GE Generators through a driveshaft, which also powered some external power take-offs and leather drive belts to the ancillary lighting and power equipment inside the building. http://www.startex.org/electric_power/electric_power.htm |
