McCormick turbines

Here are some examples of the McCormick turbines similar to those used in the Tucapau Berry Shoals power house. These were located in the Columbia Mill SC power station. One of the electric power generators is located in the background. The turbines powered not only the generators, the cast iron power take-off pulleys and wheels and long flat leather belts supplied power to overhead drive shafts, which in turn, supplied power to various other machinery in the plant. Compare the size of the turbines and generators to the men standing on the platform in the middle.
