I have recently received a gift from a friend: a telegraph receiver! This is the standard unified receiver used by post offices and railway stations for nearly a century, from 1860 to 1960! This instrument looks very old, maybe was manufactured in the 1860 - 1880 period. The mechanism was dirty and jammed; after a first accurate cleaning work, some small repairs (broken spring, loose screws, bent pins), fine adjusting and proper lubrication it is perfectly working. Now I need to rebuild some missing parts: flange of paper spool, receiver spool, ink roller. And then... maybe I will build a short telegraph line in my garden to use it! |
