I found this NM Aqua CD 190/191 Hemi at Crisp Point Light House on Lake Superior in the U.P. of Michigan, summer of 1966. My very first insulator. The three brothers to this one lay in shards at the base of the pole. Not a rare piece other than it has survived the harsh weather on the lake, deer hunters, vandalism, tourists, and the U.S. Coast Guard wrecking ball in 1965 which raised the life saving station due to damage it had incurred from the lake but left the light house. The entire facility was abandoned in 1947. The light house is in a very secluded and previously difficult to reach location but survives today due to some extensive preservation efforts. The lake almost claimed her in 1996 just before the effort began. This piece will always be in my collection in as found uncleaned condition which probably was originally installed around or between 1923 and 1933. I did find another picture that obscurely shows the pole with all it's insulators, this one included from 1935 but the focus does not allow for clear id. |
