Snooping around the hill country in far Northern California today and stumbled across an old farmers telephone line. It runs for about 5 miles and you have to look closely and know what you are looking for or you will never see it. It is a hodgepodge of two piece and single spool types combined with side pegs that have CD 102,106.121 &162 glass insulators. The telephone wire is long gone and many of the glass insulators have been almost completely encapsulated and overgrown with the tree growth. These are primarily Juniper trees which grow very slowly. I am guessing that it would take about 65-75 years to completely encapsulate a sidepin and insulator. I intend to take a chainsaw and rescue all the glass ones that I can. Those pictures will be posted later after the rescue. |
