After an unusually warm November in these parts, December has proven to be a good time to hunt as well. This is my second hunt on the old New York Central in eastern Ontario. Last week on the first hunt I turned up some commons and a not so common unembossed 145, MLOD, Brookfield style. You will see my Schonstedt magnetic locator in this shot. Normally I would not recommend taking one with you as you will turn up salg ballast, fence wire and railroad spikes. In this case there is no slag ballast, no spikes, and the wires were strung about 15 feet inside the right-of-way. When the line was abandoned the iron wires were dropped on the ground and have since become buried. In this pic we have a broken GNW CD 145. |
