Up for sale is a cool old Canadian telegraph piece - a [015] G.N.W. TEL. CO. CD 145, with a small 'o' in "Co.". I have always loved this style - super thick and generally pretty crude with big, bold embossing and a pretty light aqua coloured glass. These pieces date to sometime in the earliest 20th century and were used along the many lines which Great North Western controlled at that point. While G.N.W. TEL. CO. CD 145s are generally quite common, the varieties with the small 'o' have always been about 1 in 50 when compared to the other embossing styles that are out there. What makes this piece really neat is the presence of the heavy iron wire that was used with the piece circa its placement in use around the turn of the century or so. This may even be the same wire that was used with an earlier threadless circuit, and was probably only left on this insulator due to the replacement of the iron line wire with a newer, more efficient copper conductor. Either way it's a cool piece made cooler by the bit of extra hardware it has! The condition of the piece is less than perfect, though it displays pretty well. There is a 5/16" tall by 1/4" wide flat flake on the front skirt below the "W", and a 1 1/4" long flat flake on the rear base. There is a 1/4" small flake on the rear upper wire ridge, with a factory lehr kiss above it on the rear crown that measures about 1/2" wide. I am asking $5.00 U.S. plus shipping for this unique piece. I accept PayPal, money orders or bank cheques, or personal cheques from any member of ICON, or anyone I have dealt with before. Please feel free to look through my previously unsold items in the "For Sale (Not Sold)" folder, and combine purchases to save on shipping. |
