Mattapan (Boston), MA c.1905 Telegraph Lines

This route connected Boston with points south including Providence, New York City, etc., thus was a mainline telegraph circuit. When this image was taken this was an old 6-pin line with several crossarms, probably built in the 1890's. At some time in the mid to late teens it was totally rebuilt using ten-pin crossarms and hard-drawn copper wire like a lot of other then-aging telegraph lines of that time. CD 152 Hemingray-40s, Brookfields and CD 145 Brookfield "beehive" insulators were the rule with the "new" line.

Added note: a competing line suspected to be B&O Telegraph also shared a portion of this right-of-way.
