Also in Dolton was this transformer pole. It looks like Xcel had very recently replaced the top arm on this 7200V delta pole, but it seems they thought the old arresters good enough to leave alone. Also check out the one remaining CD 238 on this pole. Common to be sure, but still nice to see gleaming in the sun! According to Bill Kuhar, these are GE 9kV pellet arresters - first brought out in 1925 and he confirmed my suspicion that the smooth one is an older unit, then the majority were ribbed like the ones on the left (this style of arrester was superseded by a newer product in the late '50s). |
