Originally this entire section of transmission line was all early straight cap marked Victor R=00 multi-part stamp. Quite a difference in the markings. Some were marked on the top of the suspension, others marked on the bottom between the petticoats and others were unmarked. Over the years these failed miserably. They were a very thin and fragile porcelain and prone to damage and flashovers. The porcelain was more like fine dinner plate china and rang when you pinged it. Today it is a real hodgepodge of suspensions with a few of the original marked Victor R=00 still left in service. Quite a few OB Baum patents along with large bell cap early Westinghouse's. Occasionally a huge metal cap marked LOCKE with the small R=00 stamp is found amongst the strings along with more modern Lapps and Westinghouse suspensions. I will follow up with what the line looks like today after the we completed the job by replacing aging suspension arms and cross braces and the occasional transmission pole along with all new modern dark gray porcelain replacement suspensions. I kept as many as I could from this rebuild but there were not a lot of good ones left that did not have serious damage and the bad ones were then discarded. Good close up pictures to follow |
